This 1992 Camaro RS 25th Anniversary Heritage has the willpower to produce 500HP, and look good doing it!

When we first obtained this 1992 Camaro Rs 25th Anniversary Heritage Edition it had a very short story. Someone had broken into it with the intent to steal, and they ended up stealing the radio while cutting a bunch of wires just to activate the VATS system. The owner then tried to rewire and bypass the VATS system which caused the car to not start or run effectively. It had become too difficult for the owner to get the car moving so they traded it in. The dealership then had it listed for years when I could tell they were about to do away with her, I had other things in mind for this 1992 Camaro Rs 25th Anniversary Heritage Edition!

First this car was born in the VAN NUYS, CALIFORNIA plant for GM Motors. Lived the majority of its life in Pennsylvania to find its home in Texas. Its short stop in Pennsylvania left it a little rusty to the body but nothing too major. It came with the basic 305 SBC 5.0 LO3 engine that produced 170HP @ 255Lb. Ft. torque. Of course this engine was never really tested by me because the first month I had the car I was able to make a deal for a 350 SBC. The original plan was just to fix the 305 SBC up because that is what was in the vehicle. But after acquiring the 350 its a no-brainer the Engine swap was due. There are a number of reasons as to why I had to swap the engine.

  1. It was TBI injected. This was a great product for emissions and keeping power down. However, I don't know any muscle car that wants to keep its power down so we had to change to a carburetor for simplicity it also bypasses the VATS.
  2. More Horsepower and Torque. The 350 SBC starts out with a little more power than the 305 and the aftermarket support for the 350 SBC is second to no other engine in my opinion.
  3. Rebuilding for 500hp at the Crank. The title of this article says this 1992 Camaro RS 25th Anniversary Heritage Edition has the willpower meaning, it is not there yet. In order to get it there I have to use the biggest cubic inch I can produce within the current engine blocks I have.

So where did I start on this 1992 Camaro RS 25th Anniversary Heritage Edition. It started first with getting it to run. The setup that arrived had this problem with wanting to engage the starter as soon as you decided to connect the battery. There was a switch to power the fuel pump that was already burnt up in the fuel tank and the fuel lines had corroded. And did I mention the wires were cut.

No Fuel, No Spark, but I knew it had air because you could hear the compression of the engine as it cranked over. It was a healthy engine just needed some attention. All that was fine and dandy but I wanted this baby rolling so I went ahead and dropped the gas tank to add a new fuel pump and fuel lines. This 1992 Camaro RS 25th Anniversary Heritage Edition is on its way to 500hp with the 350 sbc being rebuilt and freshen up.
